Star Wars is for everyone. That’s a sentiment we’ve said many times on our podcast and one that we are very passionate about. Star Wars Visions: Volume 2 encapsulates that statement perfectly.
Volume 2 of Star Wars Visions had me grinning from ear to ear with every episode, surpassing even my enjoyment of Volume 1. This volume is particularly remarkable because it showcases Star Wars through the unique cultural lens of each animation studio, with representation from nine countries including Spain, Ireland, Chile, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, India, Japan, and South Africa.
Each studio brings something fresh and unique to the Star Wars universe, with moments that are visually stunning. The storytelling is just as impressive, with each episode leaving a lasting impression that feels so Star Wars. While all the stories have standout moments, I found myself particularly drawn to four episodes: “Screecher's Reach”, “In the Stars”, “The Bandits of Golak”, and my personal favorite, “Journey to the Dark Head”.
These four episodes showcase the best of what Star Wars Visions has to offer. “Screecher’s Reach” is a haunting tale that will leave you considering its implications. The story of “In the Stars” is truly a tear jerker and reminds you that the core of Star Wars is family. “The Bandits of Golak”’s animation style reminds me of The Clone Wars animated series, and out of all the stories, this one could easily fit into canon.
There’s one episode that I absolutely fell head over heels in love with, and that is Studio Mir’s “Journey to the Dark Head”. “Journey to the Dark Head” is an incredibly thrilling episode that kept me on the edge of my seat for its entire 18 minutes. If you loved “The Ninth Jedi” from Volume 1, you are sure to enjoy this episode as well. The storytelling and animation are so captivating that I could easily see this becoming the basis for a full-length show. (Please consider this!)
I could talk for hours about each episode in Volume 2, but while those four episodes stood out to me, every episode is unique and impressive in its own right. Star Wars Visions is like a salad bar, with something for everyone to enjoy. It's a testament to the generational appeal of Star Wars and a reminder that Star Wars truly is for everyone.
If you're hesitant to watch Star Wars Visions: Volume 2 because it's animated or you're unsure if it's your type of content, I highly recommend giving it a chance. It's a fantastic project that's sure to entertain and impress.
